"River City Girls 2" is a side-scrolling beat 'em up adventure set in a bigger version of River City. Misako, Kyoko, Kunio, and Riki return, joined by Marian and Provie, as an old enemy comes back looking for revenge. The game keeps the bright arcade energy of the series while adding more places to explore, more enemies to fight, and more ways to build each character.

The core gameplay is all about street brawling. Players move through the city, beat up gangs, use objects in the environment, level up, and unlock new moves. Combat has been expanded with guard-crush attacks, lift-off combos, elemental effects, and other techniques that make fights feel more active than simple button mashing.

Each of the six playable characters has a different fighting style and an upgradable move set, so the same areas can feel different depending on who is being used.
